THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS

 graciela2.JPG

It is officially booked so I can say now that our final gig is set!  It will be December 31, 2011 at Elks Post 2592 in Green Valley.  Chances are we might have a going away party in Tucson as well, but we thought this would be a great place to say goodbye to all our friends in Green Valley.  I know there have been different dates bandied about and I wanted everyone to know for sure.  It has nothig to do with being burned out, and my desire has always been to go out while people still want to come out and hear us.  I’ve been asked what will I do and there will be plenty.  Most of you know I am a fly-fisherman so I (and Bob) will take more fishing trips on weekends plus, I have flies to tie and rods to restore.  If all goes well, both my daughters will be marching in the Pride for U of A and I plan on seeing every home game.  Just so you know, it’s not because we don’t love you, but all things pass and I think we will end on a good note in a friendly setting.  So two years to go, let’s make them great ones.  Thank you so much, I won’t stop saying it until the final song!

FAME GOES TO BAND MEMBERS HEADS!

Oh no!  It seems the fame of winning the TAMMIES performance award has gone to our heads.  Well, judging from this picture Maureen took, at least two of us have been affected.  Of course, you may have heard us referred to as “Gilbert & Mid Life Crisis”  on the radio and other national media, and that’s to be expected - it’s a curse, I can’t turn it off.  But now that Steve was a “show” in the Electronic Guitar category, Bob & Khang have been squeezed further into the wings.  Being the consummate professionals that they are, I’m sure they harbor no ill will.  There is no possibility of solo careers and you will never see us on “Behind the Music”, but I will keep you updated - keep checking the site.

After 2 years of “It was an honor to be nominated”, we can finally lay claim to being the Reader’s Choice for Cover Band (I won’t say “best” because we know there are scads of better musicians in the Tucson area, I can say we have a high satisfaction factor).  Without a doubt, we would not be in the conversation without everyone that took the time to send in a vote.  Even if was only friends and family, we would be lucky to have that many friends but we are blessed to have some true fans who enlisted others to send in a vote.

We can’t thank you enough and thanks to the Tucson Weekly for taking the time to organize and recognize local music.  They don’t make a dime off this so drop them a thank you note or send an e-mail.  Here’s the link if you want to see the page:  http://www.tucsonweekly.com/gbase/Music/Content?oid=oid:99299

If you scroll down, you’ll see our own Steve Swinehart as an honorable mention for Electric Guitar.  Next year, let’s get Bob some votes for Vocalist & Khang for bass.  As I’ve said here before, we have blast playing for people who love to dance, this just makes life a bit nicer.  We’ll keep doing this as long we all keep having fun.  Hope to see you soon.
